Expectation

Customer Expectation Sheets

Laminate Expectation:

How much heat can laminate stand before it discolors? As a rule, a maintained temperature of 285°F can discolor a laminate. Contact adhesives typically can be reactivated or soften at around 200°F, which will allow the laminate to pull loose. The reactivation or softening of a contact adhesive will depend upon the melt point of the rubber compound. Repeated heating may cause the laminate and adhesive to react and finally deteriorate after continual exposure to temperatures above 150 degrees Fahrenheit. A pan of boiling water may be accidentally placed on a countertop without causing damage, but a hot dry pan should never be placed on a laminate countertop, since the exact temperature of the pan is unknown.

How should Laminates be cared for?All Laminate, regardless of finish, should be treated and cared for in the same way. Wash it with a soft, clean cloth and mild soap, rinse well with water, dry, and the finish will last for a long time. A soft brush may help clean the more heavily textured finishes.

What Causes stress cracking? How to avoid it? Laminate, like all wood products, will expand and contract with changes in Relative Humidity (RH%). Laminate will expand and contract more in the cross direction (width) than in the machine direction (length) with changes in Relative Humidity (RH%). This causes stress. Stress cracking relieves this stress. Rounded inside corners (1/8-inch minimum radius) will help minimize stress cracking. As always, a substrate with high internal bond strength and good adhesive bond will help minimize this problem.

How Much more durable is high wear laminate than standard laminates?A standard laminate tolerates about 500 cycles of abrasion wear in testing, while High Wear Laminate tolerates around 3,200 cycles. So it is five to six times more resistant to abrasion/wear.

Will Laminate tops scratch or chip?  Yes and Yes AEON™ Enhanced Scratch & Scuff-Resistant Performance Technology, exclusively on Wilsonart® HD® and Wilsonart® Premium Laminates, create a surface that is dramatically more durable than competitive laminates with similar finishes - a surface that keeps its good looks longer.

Will you see seams in your top? Yes, you will only have a seam in your custom top if your top is bigger than 60" x 144". If you have a post form top you will have a seam in the corner connecting the countertops together.

Customer Expectation Sheet—Solid Surfacing:

Solid Surface is an extraordinarily versatile surfacing material which offers a host of benefits in performance and aesthetics with incredible application and design flexibility. It is solid, renewable, and when applicable, may feature inconspicuous seams. Applications for solid surface are extremely far reaching. Traditionally, the largest market for solid surface is kitchen countertops.

Attributes of Solid Surface:
Non porous - resists bacterial and fungal growth Non porous - Easy to clean and "refresh" Strong & tough to resist heat, stain and impact. Easily cleaned and maintained Class I fire rating NSF approvable for Food Contact (must specify) FDA approvable for Food Contact (must specify) Easily shaped by woodworking tools Inlays and thermoforming are possible Unlimited Design Potential Unlimited Color and Textures

Solid surface can be precisely cut and bonded to fit nearly any surface shape. It can also be routed for decorative edging which can be applied with specially formulated adhesives.
Since the material color is consistent throughout the product, scratches, chips and stains can be sanded out "refreshed" when they occur.

Please refer to the following guidelines with regard to your solid surface counter top. Please refer to your manufacture care guide for additional maintenance and warranty information.

1. Satin finish is standard on all solid surface counter tops unless otherwise indicated.

2. Avoid sliding hard objects across these glossy surfaces.

3. In solid surface, dark colors show scratches and mars more easily than the medium to light colors.

4. Solid surface materials in a high gloss finish will require additional care and maintenance. Make sure to place felt protectors on the bottom of pottery or other hard objects. This finish may/will include hiring a professional to refinish the surface.

5. If splash is requested, the default style is a set-on splash 3” high. Coved splashes are available at an additional cost.

6. Solid surface products can extend approx. 12” as an overhang before additional support is required. We can provide support materials that fit under the countertop for overhangs over 12” if requested.

7. Seam locations will be at the discretion of CounterTops & Cabinets, Inc.

8. Seams in solid surface products are warranted to be inconspicuous, not invisible. Some colors do not seam as well as others and it is very difficult to minimize the appearance of the seams in those colors.

9. As walls are rarely straight, we caulk behind the backsplash using silicone caulk. As it is very difficult to get paint to adhere to silicone, we recommend that you or your painter go over the silicone with paintable latex caulking.

10. High heat can damage this product. We recommend the use of a trivet when using crock-pots & skillets.

11. Do not cut directly on counter tops. Always use a cutting board.

12. Never stand on your counters.

13. We also recommend running hot water into the sink prior to dumping hot water into it.

14. Avoid harsh chemicals such as drain cleaners and paint removers.

Quartz Expectation:

Quartz is pure and natural quartz. Variation in the natural stone (quartz) color, pattern, size, shape, and shade, are inherent and unique characteristics to be expected with this product. This down not affect the product performance in any manner.

Your countertop will not be replaced due to variations in engineered stone as described above.

Design samples are a small select cut from a slab; they do not fully exhibit all the design characteristics of the final installed product.  Variation in the natural quartz stone color, pattern, size, shape, and shade are unique and inherent characteristics of this product.
Quartz is not a seamless product; seams are visible. Where there are seams the product pattern and shade will change. Color blotches are intended and created into many designs to enhance the natural beauty. Quartz will show surface markings caused during normal use, which are easily removed with an all-purpose cleaner such as concentrated Simple Green® cleaner.

Seams -A seam in a countertop should not be the first thing you notice when you walk into the room. A good seam will be something you can both see and feel but still not strikingly noticeable. We have samples of seams for you to view our quality in both a granite countertop as well as quartz. Countertop seams are boned with an epoxy similar in color to the countertop material. These seams are never bonded with silicone.

Installation It may take a few attempts to dry fit and remove the tops from the home to make adjustments as needed. This process could require multiple attempts to achieve an acceptable fit. No need to worry, this is a normal procedure. We ask that you please make yourself available for your installation. This is the perfect opportunity to address and discuss and concerns prior to the countertop being permanently installed.

Chips-Quartz can be damaged by force and no stone is chip proof. Objects hitting edges, particularly at sinks or dishwashers, may cause chips. Though a minor knife slip will dull the knife and not harm quartz, no stone surface is scratch proof.

Heat-Natural stone surfaces can be damaged by sudden and/or rapid change of temperature, especially near the edges, as well as direct and/or sustained heating of the top. Quartz may not withstand the direct transfer of heat from pots and pans and other cooking units such as electric frying pans, griddles, slow cookers, roaster ovens, and heat lamps. Therefore, the use of a closed-weave hot pad or solid trivet like a bread board is always recommended to prevent heating the product.
Quartz is not structural support material and must be supported in every application.

Maintenance of quartz is a simple process. For routine cleaning, simply wipe down your countertop with a damp cloth or paper towel and, if necessary, all-purpose cleaner such as concentrated Simple Green® cleaner.

Granite Expectation:

Granite is subject to variations of color, vein, and pattern. Supplied product cannot be guaranteed to have absolute resemblance to samples. Characteristics such as pits and/or fissures are inherent to granite and may be visible in the finished product. Irregularities in patterns and finish are common.

Counter Tops & Cabinets, Inc. strongly encourages homeowners/end-users to view and hand pick desired slabs of granite from our distributors.

Your countertop will not be replaced due to variations in stone as described above.

There are, generally, two phases involved in the installation of your new stone countertops:
Measurement / Template and Installation.

Seams
A seam in a countertop  should not be the first thing you notice when you walk into the room. A good seam will be something you can both see and feel but still not strikingly noticeable. We have samples of seams for you to view our quality in both a granite countertop as well as quartz. Countertop seams are boned with an epoxy similar in color to the countertop material. These seams are never bonded with silicone.
Industry standards from the Marble Institute of America can be found in the “Homeowners Guide to Countertop Installation”. We have this document available at your request. It discusses how it is recommended that countertop seams can be up to 1/16” wide with a +/- tolerance of 1/64”. It also discusses how lippage of the stone is sometimes unavoidable due to permanent warp in the countertop material. Sometimes, even minor amounts of lippage are noticeable.

Layout appointments are suggested on stones with movement and/or flow. We will know the length and width of your material and will be able to determine precise location prior to cutting your slab(s). Layout appointments allow for you to vocalize your seam location preferences and the pattern of your countertops. We ask that you either be present during this process, or for your convenience, we can offer this appointment digitally, via email.

Fissures occur naturally in many stone types. A fissure is defined by the American Geological Institute as “an extensive crack, break, or fracture in the rock, which may contain mineral-bearing material.” The term “fissure” is used commercially in the stone industry to describe a visible separation along intercrystalline boundaries or the voids between mineral crystals. This separation may start and stop within the field of the stone or extend through an edge. A fissure differs from a crack in that it is a naturally occurring feature in the stone.
Cracks occur in stones as a result of mechanically induced stresses during handling, fabrication, transport, or installation. When cracks are detected in slab material prior to fabrication, the best method is to simply avoid them during the layout process. In stones with lesser soundness properties, this option may not be possible. When working with such stones it is common practice to repair cracks by cementing them together with epoxy or polyester resin. Repaired cracks are not indicative of defective product or workmanship.
Chips can occur in stones either as a result of sawing operations or handling. Chips may be repaired with epoxy or polyester resin if the completed repair is consistent in color and texture with unrepaired areas of the slab.
Pitting of the countertop surface, particularly in granite, is a common characteristic of natural stones. Granites are made up of several different minerals, each mineral having a different hardness. Granites contain quartz, feldspars, biotite, amphibole, ferrous titanium oxides, and other minerals. On the Mohs Scale, diamonds are the hardest mineral, with a rating of 10. Quartz and feldspar have a hardness of 6.5 to 7 and are very durable. Biotite (mica) is very soft (2.5) and flakes easily. All true granites have biotite in their composition. Because biotite is soft and flaky, the first few layers are removed during the polishing process, causing pits throughout the slab. Some granites have more biotite throughout their composition than others. The higher the biotite content of the stone, the more pits it will have. Most polished igneous rocks will have varying degrees of pits, depending on the amount of biotite, muscovite, and phlogopite in their composition. The pits do not make the granite less durable or otherwise inferior. Pits are common in all granites and should be expected.
Maintenance of natural stone can sound overwhelming. It really is a simple process and there are options on how you can maintain your natural stone. With proper maintenance, the process of replacing your kitchen countertops will never have to be done again. This investment will outlast generations. One option would be to seal it annually. This is a very simple wipe on wipe off process. We have Restoration Packages available if you would rather leave it to the professional. Another Option would be to use our Stone Tech Care Kit. This product is a cleaner with a built in sealer. This product would be the only product you would use on your stone and on a daily basis. It seals while you clean.

Counter Tops & Cabinets, Inc. strives to minimize the mess and level of inconvenience to the homeowner. Therefore, dust collectors, vacuums, tarps and various other items are used to protect cabinets, flooring, and other areas of the home.

On occasion, we ask for access to the garage in order to complete some of the "messy" work outside of the home. This minimizes dust and reduces the chance of accidents.

For all of the precautions that we do take, because this is a construction project, homeowners should expect an element of dust in the house. We recommend waiting until the final installation is complete before doing any type of thorough cleaning.

Wilsonart

Formica

Care:

To clean the surface, use a damp cloth or sponge  and a mild soap or detergent. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and wipe dry. Difficult stains such as coffee or tea can be removed using a mild household cleaner/detergent and a soft bristled brush, repeating as necessary.

If a stain persists, use a paste of baking soda and water and apply with a soft bristled brush. Light scrubbing for 10 to 20 strokes should remove most stains. Although baking soda is a low abrasive, excessive scrubbing or exerting too much force could damage the decorative surface, especially if it has a gloss finish.

Stubborn stains that resist any of the above cleaning methods may require the use of undiluted household bleach or nail polish remover. Apply the bleach or nail polish remover to the stain and let stand no longer than two minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and wipe dry. This step may be repeated if the stain appears to be going away and the color of the laminate has not been affected.

WARNING: Prolonged exposure of the laminate surface to bleach will cause discoloration. Hot pans and heat-producing appliances (such as electric skillets), when set directly upon countertops, can mar the product’s beauty. Always use a heat shield, hot pad or trivet.

A Few Notes of Caution

• Acidic or abrasive cleaners can damage laminate surfaces; do not use them.

• Drain cleaners containing lye will permanently  damage any Wilsonart Laminate surface. If you spill a drain cleaner, wipe it up immediately and rinse several times with water.

• Hair, textile and food dyes can cause permanent  stains. If dye should happen to spill, wipe it up immediately with dishwashing detergent or an all-purpose cleaner.

• Never place pots or dishes directly from the oven or burner on an unprotected laminate surface; such extreme heat can cause cracking or blistering.

• Do not work with oven cleaners on an  unprotected countertop. Wipe spills away promptly and rinse several times with water.

• Rust removers contain harsh chemicals which  will quickly cause permanent damage. If a spill occurs, wipe off all residue immediately, wash thoroughly with soapy water and rinse several times.

• Steel wool and other abrasive pads will damage  Wilsonart Laminate. Don’t use them for

cleaning and don’t store steel wool pads on your countertop; the metal can rust and leave stains.

• Toilet bowl cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can cause permanent damage. If spills occur, wipe up immediately, wash surface with soapy water and rinse several times.Mobirise Website Builder creates responsive, retina and mobile friendly websites in a few clicks. Silestone

Use & Care - Silestone
Quartz was created for a lifetime of easy care. Just follow our simple guidelines to help you keep your Quartz looking beautiful.
Learning how to care for your Quartz  takes no time at all—thanks to the stain-resistance of this remarkable material. Quartz is a tough, nonporous, chemically-resistant, high-performance surface that elevates your design with the natural beauty of quartz.
Everyday cleaning — Just Use Water and a Paper Towel
With simple care,  Quartz will retain its radiant, lustrous appearance for many years. For routine cleaning, simply wipe down your countertop with a damp cloth or paper towel and, if necessary, a small amount of non-bleach, non-abrasive cleanser.
Clean Up Spills Right Away — Before They Can Dry
Even though  Quartz resists permanent staining when exposed to liquids (such as wine, vinegar, tea, lemon juice and soda) or fruits and vegetables, you’ll want to wipe up food and liquid spills as soon as possible.
For stubborn or dried spills, use a nonabrasive cleaning pad such as a white 3M Scotch-Brite®* scrub pad coupled with Formula 409®
Glass & Surface Cleaner
or a comparable cleaning product.
Essential Gear
Cutting Boards and Trivets - Quartz are heat- and scratch-resistant, but not heat- and scratch-proof. Use trivets or pads with hot pots and always use a cutting board. Never chop or slice food directly on your countertops.
What Not to Use
If any of the substances mentioned below come into contact with your Quartz, rinse the exposed surface immediately and thoroughly with water.
No Wax or Polish Necessary - Because it is nonporous, Quartz does not require sealants or waxes. Quartz keeps its lustrous gloss and ultra-smooth surface without polishing or applying sealant.
Do Not Use Bleach - Avoid using cleaners that contain bleach. Always follow the cleaner manufacturer’s use instructions and exercise proper care when handling and storing any cleaning products.
Avoid High-pH Cleaners - Casual exposure to alkaline solutions, such as diluted bleach, will not damage Quartz. Highly alkaline (high pH) cleaners, such as oven cleaners and concentrated bleach, are not recommended.
Removing Cooking Grease - When grease from cooking is an issue, use Greased Lightning™
*, or a comparable degreasing product, to help loosen and remove the grease from the surface. Follow the cleaner manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Permanent Markers - Keep permanent markers and inks away from your countertops. Should these materials come into contact with the surface, clean first as outlined above in the Everyday Cleaning section. If the stain persists, moisten a cloth with Goo Gone®
, or a comparable product, and rub it into the stain. Rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove any cleaner residue.
Keep Solvents and Powerful Chemicals Off the Counter - Avoid exposing Quartz to strong chemicals and solvents, especially paint removers or furniture strippers containing trichlorethane or methylene chloride. Keep nail polish remover, bleach, detergent, permanent markers or inks, and oil soaps away from your  Quartz.
Heat Damage Prevention - To maintain the beauty of Quartz, do not place hot skillets or roasting pans directly onto the surface. We recommend the use of trivets and hot pads.
Dealing with More Difficult Spills and Materials - Materials that harden as they dry (such as gum, food, grease, nail polish or paint) are especially tenacious. Remove these by gently scraping away the excess with a plastic putty knife.
Whatever happens, do not despair!

Good,Better, Best

Shopping for cabinet is confusing! We understand. Read this sheet to help you understand the lingo, terminology and pros and cons of cabinets. Cabinets are like cars- there is good, better and best.

Good – RTA (ready to assemble), Kunal , Bargain outlet, Debut, Legacy, Merillat, Diamond, kemper, Shrock, Cardell, Kitchen Kompact,
-Price price price
-Speed-they come in fast,
-they often have options to upgrade to better construction, but you might end up in the same price point, as the brand that is the next step up, which may have those upgrades, as standard
-limited door styles, limited colors, limited sizes
-durability
-warranty 1 to 5 years
Better – Kraftmaid, Waypoint, medallion, omega dynasty

- Lifetime warranty,
-usually comes standard with full-extension soft close drawers
-melamine interior easy to wipe
-Still somewhat limited on sizes
-Might be particle board construction with a matching contact-paper ends (even though it may have plywood sides it may still have contact paper ends) Waypoint is plywood, with real wood veneer on the ends
Best- Starmark, wood mode, Candlelight, woodland, mouser

-lifetime warranty,
-value! True value! These cabinets may be “expensive” or out of your budget, but you are getting a great product for a fraction more than manufactured cabinets
-semi custom- you have more capability to make custom sizes and shapes
Wood veneer interiors
-Longer lead times 6-8 weeks
-Of course, price $
Other thoughts
Solid wood center panel doors- the center of the door, weather it a raised panel or flat panel- the panel is made out of solid wood pieces, with this style you will see the separate piece of wood that make up the panel.

Veneer center panel doors- thin wood veneer laid over a substrate, with this style you can see the wood grain go across the whole panel; the frame (picture frame) of the door will still be solid wood
Plywood construction- Many professionals say “Yes, our cabinets are plywood!” when really them mean the cabinet has a plywood side on the left and right. Then the tops, bottoms, back , and shelves are participle laminated with a maple print, some

All plywood construction- when the cabinet sides are plywood still. And the tops bottoms, backs and shelves are plywood as well.
