Quartz - Sensa Granite

What is Sensa granite?
A: Each slab of SenSa granite is one-of-a-kind and carefully quarried by Cosentino using state-of-the-art equipment to provide the highest quality stone. Strength, durability and uniqueness make SenSa Granite the ideal choice for kitchen countertops as well as other surfaces in the home.
You will find that SenSa Granite offers an array of colors to match any decor or project. Every SenSa Granite slab has SenGuard technology applied in Cosentino’s modern fabrication facilities. This SenGuard protection allows Cosentino to offer an industry leading 15-year warranty against staining. It ensures that the natural beauty of your SenSa Granite countertop will remain intact for years to come.

Granite Countertop Colors and Patterns
Granite is a primordial stone with naturally occurring variations in color and pattern. These variations which are completely natural and expected are referred to as “Movement”, and are the source of Granites natural beauty. In addition, the veining that occurs in granite can affect color persception, so make sure that you always come visit us to view your granite slabs before installing them in your kitchen or bathrooms. Sometimes two different grain sizes occurring in the same slab will appear to be of a different color. Mineral concentrations may cause patches that appear darker or lighter.
Every slab of granite varies somewhat within any given color and pattern, which is why every granite kitchen countertop will be unique. If you are unfamiliar with granite, a granite slab ordered may not be identical to a sample you are shown. While the samples are intended to represent the quarry’s product, each slab may differ slightly in color and veining. Indeed, even a single granite slab will have color variations from one end to the other. This lack of predictability gives the product its unique character and adds an element of nature into human-designed spaces.
For this reason, Countertops & Cabinets Inc. recommends that you take the time to select the granite slab intended for your countertops. While granite color options are numerous, it’s usually best to choose a granite slab color we have stocked on site to save cost. If a slab has to be special-ordered, the freight would be prohibitive and the lead-time could be several weeks.

How is Quartz different from granite?
Quartz is superior to granite because it is more consistent and therefore more reliable. Unlike granite, Quartz does not need to be sealed. The flexural strength in quartz makes it easier to handle than granite, reducing mishaps during fabrication, transportation and installation. And while quartz and granite both show the beautiful depth of color unique to quartz, there is more natural quartz found in quartz than in any piece of granite. The composition of granite is up to 40 percent quartz.

How is quartz different from solid surfaces?
While solid surfaces are made of plastic, quartz — one of the toughest and most beautiful elements found in nature; surpassed in hardness only by diamond, topaz and sapphire. Thus, while solid surfaces are susceptible to scratches, stains and scorches, quartz remains intact with regular use requiring no maintenance or special care.

How durable is quartz?
quartz keeps its beautiful looks because it is hard at the core.

Scratch-resistance of quartz Countertops:
Common household accidents such as a dropped knife, a fallen piece of glass or errant scissors will not scratch quartz because only materials as hard as, or harder than, quartz will scratch it. Beware: no surface is indestructible. And while quartz is highly scratch-resistant, it is not scratch-proof. Another piece of quartz, as well as some metals and harder minerals may scratch quartz. The surface also can be damaged if enough force or pressure is applied against it.

Stain-resistance of quartz Countertops:
Because quartz is non-porous, most spills stay on the surface and are easy to clean with soapy water or a regular household cleaner. Yet as with any other stone or surface, strong chemicals and solvents such as Drano®, Liquid Plummer®, all oven cleaners and floor strippers will damage the surface and must not be used on quartz.

Heat-resistance
quartz is heat- and scorch-resistant. It will withstand limited exposure to heat without burning or scorching. The fire of a lit match will not mar the quartz countertop. However, as advised by crock-pot and electric skillet manufacturers, do not place these items directly on any countertop. We recommend the use of trivets when placing hot items on a quartz surface to avoid thermal shock.

The Backsplash

This is where the countertop meets the wall. Its basic function is to protect the wall from spills and splashes. Here at Countertops & Cabinets Inc. we offer three styles of backsplashes.

-Set on splash is where a 1.125" thick stone splash is set on top of the countertop and where the splash and the top of the countertop meets there will be a silicone sealer applied.

-No backsplash, This is where home owners put tile from the granite top to the upper cabinets.

-Full Stone splash  is wher 1.125" thick stone is set on top of the top and brought up to the upper cabinets. Where the top and full stone splash meet there will be a silicone sealer.

Please browse the pictures below to get an idea of what the back splash
options are.

Care Cleaning

Care and Maintenance of Quartz Countertops:

For Silestone Quartz with a polished finish, we recommend you use a mild household cleaner, such as 409®, Fantastik®, Lysol®, or Windex®. In case of stubborn spills or stains, soak the area for up to 10 minutes with one of the above cleaners and vigorously wipe away with a non scratch Scotch Brite® pad.

Silestone® Leather™ does show daily living more frequently and therefore requires more daily maintenance than other Silestone Quartz products. For your daily cleaning routine we recommend Countertop Magic™ follow instructions on bottle of cleaner.
The natural quartz in Silestone makes it the toughest interior surface available on the market. It resists scratching, staining and scorching better than any other natural stone or solid surface. Do avoid excessive force or pressure because that may mar or chip the surface. Don’t worry about spills from coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, makeup, and many other common household products; just avoid harsh chemicals. And don’t worry about dropping a lit match onto your Silestone counter top; it won’t scorch. But, use trivets when placing any hot items to avoid thermal shock.

Care and Maintenance of Sensa Granite:

SenSa Granite is easy to care for and keep clean. SenSa’s SenGuard technology allows for easy clean-up and keeps your countertops sealed and protected for 15 years. While other commercial granites require yearly sealing, SenSa requires little maintenance. Clean your countertops with only water and a mild detergent.
Unlike most granite, SenSa Granite does not require yearly sealing for up to 15 years.
To clean, simply use soapy water or a gentle household cleaner and wipe the surface dry.
Protect countertop surfaces from direct heat sources with coasters or placemats.
Do not use polishes or waxes.
